Saura: “I’m sure Gayà will surpass my 401 matches with Valencia CF. He’s a great player and gives everything for the Club”
The Valencian legend was featured on L’Informatiu on VCF Media Radio
The winner of the 1979 Copa del Rey, the 1980 Cup Winners’ Cup, and the 1981 Super Cup, Enrique Saura, spoke on L’Informatiu on VCF Media Radio about the team’s current situation and the upcoming match against Villarreal CF.
Valencia CF
“I was lucky to win three titles and play 401 matches with the Club. I didn’t remember having played that many, but I must have done something right to reach that number of games. Although statistics are for the fans. While you’re active, you just play and think about other things; then when you finish is when you analyze what you’ve done. Many matches and titles mean that you played at a great Club, had great teammates, and responded to what the coach asked of you.”
Match against Villarreal CF
“In these matches, you also need a bit of luck. Rivalries sometimes give you good things and sometimes bad things. Football is football, and these are two great teams. May the best win; obviously, I want Valencia CF to win.”
Historic derbies
“We won most of these matches. We had a team with great players and enormous quality.”
Gayà, close to equaling Saura
“I’m sure he will make it, and I hope he continues like this. Being captain is not just about wearing the armband, taking the photo with the referees, and lifting trophies; there’s more to it. You have to defend all your teammates and ‘face up’ because you’re the captain. I’ve considered myself a noble, normal person, and when I’ve seen an injustice, I stood up for that person. Gayà has all of that. That’s why I hope he can surpass me. He’s a great player and gives everything for the Club.”
